Five Things About……

🌶️Did you know that Chillies are good for you🌶️

1. Chilli Peppers help Your Immune System
Due to their high content of vitamins, specifically Vitamins A and C, Chilli peppers have long been valued as a powerful immunity booster.

2. Chilli Peppers help to ramp up your metabolism. Capsaicin is the compound that is the source of a Chilli pepper’s spiciness. It is an alkaloid compound found primarily within the seeds and veins of a pepper, and it seems to be a veritable fount of good health. It is thought that the heat you experience as you eat the Chilli can also increase your body temperature. Known in the scientific community as thermogenesis, this production of heat requires increased work from your metabolism.

five things about chillies

3. Chilli Peppers could be enhancing your Heart Health. The benefits of capsaicin don’t end with metabolic support. This amazing compound has been shown to help in the reduction of cholesterol and triglyceride levels while reducing the risk of blood clot formation. Reducing these risk factors in your cardiovascular system translates into lowered risks of suffering a heart attack, stroke or deadly blood clot.

4. Chilli Peppers could be reducing body wide inflammation. Capsaicin seems to be a sort of Jack-of-all-trades in relation to the health of human body, supporting and maintaining the health of nearly all of our major systems. It has been shown to be a powerful anti-inflammatory, actually inhibiting the action of certain peptides in the body that cause irritation and swelling. Pain, such as arthritis, headaches, sinus pressure and muscle and joint aches, are usually caused by inflammatory responses that your body produces in an attempt to eradicate an irritant.

5. Chilli Peppers – helping to fight against Diabetes.
Research has shown that eating meals containing Chilli peppers can be highly beneficial for those suffering from diabetes. It seems that Chillies reduce the amount of insulin needed to digest food, translating into a lowered overall level of blood sugar. This reduction in insulin production also helps to reduce the strain on the liver, leading to a more fully functional enzyme cascade within the digestive system.

Five Things About……

With people embracing new diets for the new year, we thought it was important to explain the health benefits of some foods that can be easily added into your cooking, so here is the first in our mini series created by our osteopath James.

Garlic

1. Help fight colds and sickness. A 12-week study found that a daily garlic supplement reduced the number of colds by 63% compared to a placebo.
2. Could be beneficial in reducing blood pressure. Some studies have found garlic supplements to have a significant impact on reducing blood pressure in people with high blood pressure.

3. It may help lower cholesterol. Studies have demonstrated a reduction in total and/or LDL cholesterol by about 10–15%.

4. Garlic contains antioxidants that support the body’s protective mechanisms against oxidative damage. These antioxidants may reduce the risk of common brain diseases like Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

5. Could help maintain health bones. rodent studies have shown that it can minimise bone loss by increasing oestrogen in females.

Not Just for Bad Backs

Although osteopaths are renowned for the treatment of bad backs it is a common misconception that this is the only medical problem they treat. Indeed osteopathy successfully treats a variety of painful conditions – here’s a more comprehensive, but not definitive list.

Acupuncture is for Everyone

Acupuncture really is for everyone!

My youngest patient was 7 and my oldest is 86!

Its amazing what acupuncture is capabale of treating safely and effectively. It’s not scary or painful, many patients report an increased sense of wellbeing, a better night’s sleep and a boost of energy alongside the reduction and resolution of the symptoms they came in hoping to get rid of!

acupuncture peopleIt’s rarely just about some little pins, a combination of Tui Na massage and cupping is often involved or can be used solely if preferred…. It’s easy to find out if you’re suitable for Acupuncture by making a diagnostic assessment appointment through our website for just £20 or call the clinic directly.

I have a few spaces for new patients currently which aren’t always easy to come by so don’t hesitate! And if you’re not suitable, referrals to one of my colleagues, back to the NHS/GP or for an MRI can be done if necessary!

Pregnancy – Conceiving Naturally

Following on from the previous post by Acupuncturist Laura Jones about the menstrual cycle she now talks about conceiving naturally.

“I think nowadays many of us believe falling pregnant is going to be easy… But unfortunately 1 in 7 couples are said to be struggling to conceive here in the UK (2013 NHS stats) that’s approximately 3.5 million people! Almost 30% of these cases are unexplained. For those going through that turbulent time of trying to conceive without success, the idea of there being “a problem” can be all consuming and scary. Often leaving either or both partners feeling guilty and helpless… Many emotions fluctuate and can cause anxiety, stress, depression… It’s unique to each person and that in turn can disrupt your insides!

Conceive

There’s a very delicate balance of hormones required of both parties in order to fall pregnant let alone making sure you’re utlitisng the optimum time in the woman’s cycle! It’s amazing we conceive at all!

Acupuncture can really help get things moving with natural Fertility, I’m very happy to say I’ve helped women fall pregnant without any of the synthetic drugs or invasive procedures many women immediately opt for. At the end of my series of posts surrounding this subject I will write an FAQ all about Acupuncture and Fertility. But if you want to find out more or get the ball rolling please call me to book a free consultation to meet me at either Cedar Hall Clinic in Stanford le Hope or Thundersley, Benfleet. You’re not alone”

Acupuncture for Women’s Health & Fertility

I’m going to use this post day to start talking about Acupuncture and women’s health and Fertility as I get asked all the time about it!

Best to start with the menstrual cycle! In the diagram above you can see the plight of a woman’s hormone cycle! Every month fluctuations of these phases occur and can cause a multitude of physical and emotional symptoms. Every woman’s cycle is unique to them!

Menstrual Cycle
Acupuncture can help smooth things over during ovulation, PMT time and the period itself! Many of my patients report lesser mood swings, increased quality of sleep and a reduction of pain during their period.

It’s worth considering if you want some control over your menstrual symptoms…
If you have a hormonal imbalance, endometriosis, pcos or irregular, heavy/clotted or painful periods give it a go!

Next time I will post about natural Fertility…..
Until then! If you need an appointment for treatment or assessment please call the clinic or book instantly online.

Cupping & Tui Na

CuppingCupping can be used to find the zones causing pain and stiffness and relieve them of their stagnation. These marks are textbook for localised pain and typical of someone suffering from Fybromyalgia. They’re not too dark or densely speckled and you’ll notice not every placement produced the marking… Followed up by some Tui Na (Chinese massage) . The relief a patient feels post treatment is extraordinary! A patients words after treatment  today were “I feel so much lighter and free”
This patient used to see our Acupuncturist Laura Jones every week for 6 weeks to manage her symptoms then gradually spaced treatment out so now she is seen once a month.
Acupuncture and cupping isn’t painful.

These marks will slowly fade as the body removes the waste and allow for better blood flow therefore less painYou can make an appointment to try cupping or acupuncture or both!

Free consultations available if you want to find out more before giving it a go
